Former VVV Venlo Goalkeeper, Robin Udegbe To Choose Nigeria Ahead Of Germany
KFC Uerdingen goalkeeper, Robin Udegbe, has pledged his international future to Nigeria instead of Germany, after holding talks with Super Eagles strikers Ahmed Musa, Uche Nwofor and Michael Uchebo.
The former VVV Venlo custodian was born in Germany 23 years ago to a Nigerian father, who hails from Anambra State, and a German mother.
''Until now, I did not talk directly to someone in the Nigerian Federation. I am still in contact with my old team-mates from VVV Venlo, Uche Nwofor, Ahmed Musa and Michael Uchebo. They told me a lot about the national team,'' Robin Udegbe told SL10.ng.
He went on : ''I did my best last season and became part of the best eleven of the season in Germany. Now I'm the captain of my team at the age of 23 and improve myself every game on a high level.
''That way I hope to get a chance to show my skills at the national team. I would prefer to play for Nigeria because it's the country of my father and it would make me proud to play for my father's country. I will fight for my chance.''
Robin Udegbe expects the Super Eagles coaches to hand him an invitation, saying the level of football being played in Germany's fourth tier is higher than some other leagues in Europe.
''The level of Germany's fourth - tier is very high. I already had the chance to change to other First Division teams but at the moment I prefer to stay here.
''I already played in the highest division of Holland and the level of the fourth - tier in Germany is higher than the second of Holland.
''But my aim is to play in one of the best divisions like Spain, England or Germany, '' he added.
The 1.91 cm tall has contractual obligations with KFC Uerdingen until the end of the 2014 - 2015 season.
