Adeniyi James Hits Winner In Albanian Cup Final
There were doubts about how KF Laci would cope with a fast FK Kukesi side in the Albanian Kupa e Shqipërisë - thanks to a well struck winner by Adeniyi James the Laci-based outfit won the cup final at the Stadiumi Kombëtar Qemal Stafa on Friday.
The Stadium was packed with close to 7,000 fans equally of both Laci and Kukesi - and Adeniyi scored the match-winner in a game that ended two goals to one.
It was Laci's second Cup title and the only this season. Their previous Cup title had come in the 2002-03 season.
Despite a busy few days, the first half was dominated by Laci with their Nigerian import leading the onslaught in an entertaining affair.
Having soaked up early pressure from Laci, Kukesi pounced just before the half hour as Emiljano Veliaj's effort went beyond goalkeeper Miroslav Vujadinovic.
Laci were clearly not deterred and they finally broke the spine of Kukesi with a 45th minute equaliser from Edon Hasani.
The flurry of attacks by Laci continued at the start of the second half with Adeniyi coming close.
The pressure paid off as Laci then landed the final punch with their hitman Adeniyi giving the finishing touch to a fine move on the hour mark.
It was a frantic last 30 minutes as Kukesi threw the kitchen sink in search of the equaliser that would have kept them in the game.
