World Cup-winning captain Philip Lahm admitted that his Bayern Munich side needed a miracle to progress to Champions League final after their poor first-leg against Barcelona.

The Bavarian’s many have beaten the Catalan’s 3-2 on Tuesday night, but lost 5-3 on aggregate as went down 3-0 to Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

The Bayern captain knew that they were up against it going into Tuesday night’s game, and felt that only a miracle could take them through to the final.

“As a player you always believe in miracles. But you can't request anything, it's not that easy,” Lahm told Sky Sports.

“Barcelona are an extraordinary team, and they convert their chances. We gave everything we had, we showed determination.

“Our game looked a lot better today, we created many chances in the first-half. But we did not lose the tie today.”

Lahm believed that the last few minutes at the Camp Nou cost his side a place in the final and felt Barcelona were the strongest side.

“Maybe the last two minutes in Barcelona cost us the final,” he added.

“If you return home with a 1-0 loss, many things are possible compared to a 3-0 loss. We did not go out against a bad team but a team that had every player available and was at its peak.”

Real Madrid face Juventus in the second Champions League semi-final on Wednesday and the winner will go onto face Barcelona in Berlin.
