FC Barcelona has clinched seven La Liga titles since Lionel Messi joined the first team. Here is why the Catalan giants make everything to keep him happy.

Sky Sports Revista de La Liga team discussed Messi’s role in the Catalan set up after Barcelona are on the verge of winning the treble this season.

"Take Lionel Messi out of Barcelona in the last seven years, they would not have won as many as five leagues, two Champions Leagues, plus maybe a third Champions League,” Guillem Balague argued.

"If you want to analyse this season only, a coach did his job. Enrique looked after the little details, changed the style and the essence of Barcelona, and has made it a super competitve team.

"At the end of everything is one thing: Lionel Messi. Whether they are a counter-attacking team or a passing team, whatever, it's all about Lionel Messi."

Ballague’s colleague, Gerry Armstrong echoed the sentiment that without Messi Barcelona wouldn’t have clinched so many titles.

"It's a question of how the other talent adjusted to Lionel Messi, and accept that he is probably the best player I've ever seen,” Armstrong added.

"He is the best player in the world, no doubt about that. He can do things that nobody else can do."

Messi has scored 56 goals in all competitions so far this season with two games to spare, 15 more than during the whole of last campaign, which Barcelona ended trophyless.
