Real Madrid Extend Contract With Raphael Varane Until 2020

Real Madrid have announced that the club has extended the contract with France starlet, Raphael Varane, until 2020.

The 21-year-old’s previous deal had still three years left, but Real wanted to bind one of Europe’s most prolific defensive talents even longer.

“Real Madrid C. F. has extended Raphael Varane’s contract with the club until June 2020,” reads the official statement on the club’s website.

Varane joined Madrid from Lens in 2011 and has since made 74 appearance for Los Blancos.

The young centre-back was nailed on in defence in the 2012/13 campaign under Mourinho but has lost his starting place under Ancelotti due to some injury problems.

He played 120 minutes in the Champions League final and had been rumoured with a move to Chelsea to reunite with former manager Jose Mourinho.

However, he has now committed his long-term future to the club and will sooner or later replace Sergio Ramos or Pepe in Madrid’s defence.

Do you think Varane should start ahead of Pepe or Sergio Ramos? Have your say in the comment section below.
