Enyeama's Successor Will Be Emmanuel Daniel

Have We, At Last, Found A Successor To Vincent Enyeama In Emmanuel Daniel?

After several months of worrying over the Super Eagles’ goalkeeping department, should Vincent Enyeama decide to retire from international football, there seems to be some light, at last, in Emmanuel Daniel.

But has the Enugu Rangers shot-stopper really got what we need to command a regular spot as the number one goalkeeper of the three-time African Champions?

This remains the biggest question but undoubtedly his performance in Dream Team's qualifying games has put him in strong contention for a seat on the flight.

Daniel showed Africa some greatness to help the Nigeria U23 team qualify for the 11th All Africa Games at the expense of Zambia U23 on Sunday at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

Some names like Dele Alampasu, Daniel Akpeyi, Theophilus Afelokhai, Carl Ikeme, David Obiazo and Chidiebere Eze have been mentioned as likely successors to the throne of Enyeama.

Daniel has been excellent in the past three years with good displays in the Nigeria Premier League.

The next Super Eagles coach should have no problems handing down a call up to the keeper in our next international assignment and perhaps put him between the posts. That syndrome which limits new invitees onto the bench at least must be cured.

If Enyeama decides to retire from international football we can gather the vim and vigour and throw Daniel between the posts and tell him to perform.

He has the potential to excel in any big game.
