SL10.ng understands that Manchester City have set the wheels in motion in their bid to bring highly - rated Nigerian starlet Chidera Ejike to The Etihad Stadium.

The Citizens are still licking their wounds after failing to capture the signature of Nigeria youth international Musa Yahaya, who signed a preliminary contract with Tottenham Hotspur a year ago after displaying his wares at the 2013 Fifa Under 17s.

Man City chiefs opened a line of communication with the attacking midfielder's agent, and gave him a mandate to scout for the next Musa Yahaya.

After extensive scouting, the chosen player is Chidera Ejike, a midfielder currently on the books of nursery team Gee-Lec Football, Academy Jos, who has been hailed as the new Iniesta.

The 16 - year - old is one of the players being considered to bolster the Golden Eaglets squad ahead of the Fifa under 17 World Cup in Chile.

Having run foul of UEFA's financial fair play guidelines, Manchester City have decided to invest in their academies, and are hoping to attract some of the best youngsters to Ewen Fields.

The English Premier League champions have on their books Kelechi Iheanacho, Tosin Adarabioyo and Ashinme Kigbu while Chidiebere Nwakali has been loaned out to Malaga until June 30, 2017.
