Komphela On Chiefs’ Injury Crisis
Steve Komphela Says Kaizer Chiefs Can Cover Their Injury Problems
Kaizer Chiefs’ Steve Komphela has discussed the club’s injury problems going into the clash against Cape Town City, saying he needs other players to step up.
Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Tsepo Masilela, Emmanuel Letlotlo, Teenage Hadebe and Sibusiso Khumalo were all ruled out of the game with injuries earlier this week, and now Ryan Moon has also joined that list despite recently returning from injury. Erick Mathoho is suspended.
While they have had a boost with the return of Itumeleng Khune, Komphela says that they do have players capable of making up for the absences.
He told the club’s official website, “Any time you lose a squad member, it gives other players an opportunity to show their mettle. We will run lean and mean in defence, but luckily enough we have players capable to switch positions and change the formation when necessary.
“We will field a strong side though.”
Komphela also added, “We are excited to get back to action. The team is upbeat and looking forward to play.
“The FIFA break gave us a chance to work on a number of aspects of our game that needed attention. We played in two friendlies during the break and I thought it gave us an opportunity to put some polishing touches on our tactics.”
Chiefs are expected to field a backline of Khune, Kgotso Moleko, Lorenzo Gordinho, Daniel Cardoso and Philani Zulu against Benni McCarthy’s unbeaten Citizens.
