La Liga Duo Join Zungu Race

Bongani Zungu's List Of Potential Suitors Keeps Growing

By Joe Crann - Jun 01, 2017 11:29 AM @YesWeCrann
Two teams in the Spanish La Liga are the latest to join the race for Bongani Zungu’s signature, with Vitoria de Guimaraes looking unlikely to keep hold of him.

The Siya crew has previously reported that the likes of Benfica, Porto, Sporting Clube de Portugal and Mainz have shown an interest in trying to land the Bafana Bafana international, with Hoffenheim also keeping tabs on him.

Now, with the Portuguese season having come to an end as Guimaraes lost to Benfica in the Taca de Portugal final, the battle for Zungu looks set to heat up as the Portuguese club look less and less likely to have him at the club next season.

Guimaraes have offered the midfielder a new long-term contract, but with a several clubs willing to match their €3.5m (R52m) valuation of him, he may be lost to them.

Having scored in the Cup final this weekend, the crew have now been informed that both Villarreal and Malaga in La Liga have been impressed by what they’ve seen of the 24-year-old and are mulling over whether to make a move or not.

With Guimaraes playing UEFA Europa League football, Zungu will be looking for a club playing on the continent if he does leave, something that Villarreal – but not Malaga, can offer.

Benfica is thought to be favourites to land the former Mamelodi Sundowns man at this stage, however, Porto could up their efforts if, as expected, they lose defensive midfielder, Danilo, in the current window.

@johanfhall I thought about that too and especially since his current team will be playing Europa league next season. His current coach also told him to get more into the area box which is something lacking in most SA midfielders. As a number 8 he is expected to score at least 7 goals a season. However, he is even more comfortable as a number 6. My take is that if these teams are really interested in having him and Guimaeres are willing to cash in, then let him join either Porto or Villareal.

Bongani has always been a quality player...pitty European clubs revealled that for us. He go anywhere and perform. To replace Dinilo would add to his brand image. Being exposed to quality of La Liga and UEFA at the same time would add vastly on his expereince. VillaReal it is Bongani if you get it- grab it. Show Messi what you are made off...
