Copa America To Invite European Giants?

Could Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo do battle for the Copa America? According to a report, this scenario could become a reality as the South American confederation are said to be planning to invite European giants to the tournament.

According to Globo Esporte, CONMEBOL are discussing inviting four European heavyweights to the 2019 edition of the competition.

It has been claimed the South Americans are keen to extend their Copa America format to 16 teams, and add four of the "Latin" European countries.

France, Spain, Italy and Portugal are the nations that are apparently being considered for an invitation to the tournament.

CONMEBOL's Copa America currently consists of its 10 member associations plus two invited nations (usually two nations from the CONCACAF region).

If the proposal to add another four European nations is implemented, some of the world's biggest players, such as Messi, Ronaldo and Paul Pogba, could meet each other.

However, 2019 would be the last chance for such a tournament format, because from 2020 onwards UEFA's European Championship and CONMEBOL's Copa America will take place in the same year.

Would you be keen for the four European giants to play in the Copa America? Have your say in the comments section below.

Not a spectacular idea, which would only add more games to the already congested games played.
