Manchester United Star: Cristiano Ronaldo's Latest Record Is Verging On Ridiculous
Cristiano Ronaldo's former teammate at Manchester United, Michael Carrick, has described the Portuguese's UEFA Champions League record of 100 goals in the competition as "verging on ridiculous".
The Portugal captain became the first player in the tournament's history to hit the milestone after scoring a hat-trick in Real Madrid's 4-2 win over Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old's first 15 goals in the Champions League came during his time at Old Trafford and Carrick, his Red Devils teammate at the time, is amazed the winger has gone on to net 85 further strikes in the famous showpiece.
"It's verging on ridiculous, really, to score so many goals in such a challenging competition. It really is incredible," the Englishman told United's official website
"I watched both games against Bayern. He gets a sniff of a chance and 'bang', it's away. There weren't really many other chances that he squandered. He had a few shots but you almost bank on him to score.
"It's a frightening, frightening stat. But how many records has he broken over the years? It's unbelievable and tells you everything about him."
Carrick will be hoping he can help guide the Red Devils to the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night, when they host Belgium side Anderlecht for the second leg of their quarter-final.
