Mkhize’s Failed Pirates Move A Blessing In Disguise?

Thamsanqa Mkhize's Failed Orlando Pirates Move May Have Worked In His Favour

By Soccer Laduma - Dec 16, 2016 12:00 PM
Thamsanqa Mkhize nearly signed for Orlando Pirates earlier this year, but he may be feeling lucky that he didn’t given the success of the side he did join.

While there were never reasons given for why the 28-year-old’s move to the Buccaneers never happened, having won the Telkom Knockout with Cape Town City and helped them climb to the top of the Absa Premiership, he will be thanking his lucky stars at this stage.

City are now six points and six places above Pirates in the league, and while they are nowhere near the stature of Bucs, City will certainly be the happier of the two teams going into the African Cup of Nations break.

“I’m absolutely thrilled for Thami’s sake. He unfortunately was made certain promises by another agent and those promises didn’t come to fruition.

Mike Makaab, the player’s representative, spoke of his delight after the player returned to Prosport International ahead of joining City, telling the Siya crew in this week’s Soccer Laduma, “I’m delighted that he elected to get back with us and thrilled that his move to Cape Town City has worked so well. It’s strange how football works – six months later he’s a cup final winner and top of league.”

Meanwhile, Makaab also had a message for footballers everywhere, saying, “I just want to remind players to ensure that they appoint people to take care of their career who actually have their best interests at heart and want to follow through on promises that are made.”

@HDK 732 VP there are n9 guarantees in football man. pirates once got relegated back when it was NSL and because there are politics in FOotbal Khoza made sure they dont get relegated instead they increased the number of teams to 18.

Football is not about six months success, it's a marathon journey. We don't know what is CTC's direction after winning this cup , but Pirates is the big team which is guaranteed never to fight relegation and at least a cup once in a while. If this team goes 15 years without another cup we'll not be surprised but it's highly unlikely that during that period(15 years) pirates will not be having 4 cups at least. So good for the boy for now but I doubt if this form will be as sustainable as pirates existence.

My eyes are filled with tears everytime I watch this boy in action. He has height, timeous tackles, skill for a right back, blistering pace and good crosser of the ball. His workrate at Telkom speak for itself. But our foolish mgt listened to a lousy coach who said he was not in his plans thereby agreed to pay him out his 3yr contract without kicking the ball for us.

Playing for a small team can never be a blessing but for an average player like him maybe he is, the guy is certainly not Pirates material.
