Bold: Chiefs Dominated Midfield
Phumudzo Manenzhe Explains Chiefs CBL Win
Former Orlando Pirates striker, Phumudzo Manenzhe, has shared his thoughts on the Carling Black Label Cup win for Kaizer Chiefs, saying that Amakhosi dominated the game in the middle of the park.
Chiefs lifted the trophy for only the second time against Orlando Pirates and the former striker has now said that Steve Komphela’s midfielders were able take control of the game, thanks to their extra man in that department.
“I want to give credit to the Chiefs midfield, because I thought Chiefs dominated the midfield,” he told Soccer Laduma. “Chiefs had an extra man in midfield. Orlando Pirates were meant to deal with that by having one of their strikers drop into midfield.”
The man known affectionately as “Bold” also believes that Oupa Manyisa’s lack of match fitness contributed to the difficult afternoon for Pirates, but he expects “Ace” to be back to his best shortly.
"With that extra man, it didn’t help that Oupa Manyisa last played in September last year. For him to come back in a big game of that magnitude made that more difficult. I could see that he’s been out of the game for a while, but I think after preseason preparation, he will come back strongly."
