Wits signalled their intent early on and broke the deadlock in the fourth minute when James Keene headed home Elias Pelembe's cross at the near post.

The home side controlled possession for most of the opening exchanges as Polokwane struggled to make their presence felt in the midfield.

Rise and Shine, on the other hand, failed to threaten Wits' defence in the final third and it was a relatively quiet half for Darren Keet.

Keet's opposite number, George Chigova had to be at his best just before the halftime break as the Zimbabwean produced a superb save to deny Gabadinho Mhango from close range.

The score remained 1-0 to the home side at the halftime break.

The hosts picked up from where they left off in the opening stanza, while Polokwane continued to sit back and soak up the pressure.

Wits eventually doubled their lead on the hour mark, as Daine Klate exchanged passes with Mogakolodi Ngele, before drilling the ball into the far corner, 2-0.

Pelembe and Keene continued to threaten for the home side as they pushed for more goals in the second half.

Gavin Hunt opted for a change after 77 minutes as Phumlani Ntshangase replaced Ngele, while Polokwane introduced Walter Maponyane for Tshepo Tema.

Wits managed to see out the closing stages with relative ease, and with Mamelodi Sundowns drawing with Maritzburg, Wits have been crowned Champions with one game to play.

@LeCowhlohlo, are you teasing us for not being good enough to defend our Tittle Mate? I am not bitter, I am happy for my Boys, Ngele, Pelembe and Malatjiela for exposing Pitso's poor judgement. I am also happy for Gavin Hunt, he is one of the best Coaches this Country has ever Produced. I wish he stays at Wits till he succeeds Sir Baxter as Bafana Bafana Coach. He must Ignore the taunts I am hearing from nappyrena.

@Fanaticalism I second that statement we no longer have favorites teams who can simply win the Championship year in and year out and teams should stick with their coaches and stop changing them

Congrats to Wits and Gavin Hunt, they deserve the title. I do note that Gavin had won nothing in his 4 seasons at Wits and because this is not Chiefs, management stuck by him as there was no pressure from the supporters. I saw people saying Gavin must come to Chiefs but I know that he wont last as our fans expect instant gratification. We need to accept that gone are the days when only 3 teams fought for the league and we need to do way more to lift any trophy.

Pitso be like we won seven titles......sundowns ran dry this season, they cant count on super cup. we talking domestic here.....they ran dry. they thought they will play Africa and dominate PSL this side, phew........it shows that PSL is really competitive......as for my team KC, Khompela better win mtn 8 otherwise Guluva will have no choice but to do what he said is not in the agenda at hand....we cant afford three barren seasons...no
