Confusion Over Chiefs’ Released Stars
There Seems To Be Some Confusion Over The Exit Of Kaizer Chiefs Players
Kaizer Chiefs may have confirmed the release of four players this week, but it appears that things might not be as straightforward as they have made out.
The club said that Siyanda Xulu, Lucky Baloyi, Camaldine Abraw and Lewis Macha’s contracts ‘will be terminated by mutual consent’ after ‘meetings between club management and the players’ respective representatives’ took place recently.
That statement suggests that all four players have been handed their clearances by the Amakhosi and that all four have agreed upon terminating their contracts at the club, some of which were only due to expire in 2019.
The Siya crew have been led to believe that, while meetings between the players, their representatives and the club did take place, not all of the players have finalised their exits at this stage, even if potential exits have been agreed in principle.
Sources have explained that the exits are based on the proviso that the players manage to find new clubs in the coming weeks, as they are reticent to cut off their income without having a new contract in place.
Without a signed termination, no player is obliged to leave the club despite their intentions and given the long-term contracts that some of the players have, they will only go if a settlement is reached.
The crew will continue to monitor the situation of Xulu, Baloyi, Abraw and Macha, with the quartet all now on the lookout for new clubs given Chiefs’ decision to make them as surplus to requirements.
