Uchechi Delighted With Minsk's Early Start
Uchechi Sunday Delighted With Excellent Minsk Early Start
Minsk forward Uchechi Sunday has admitted she could not imagine a more “perfect” start to the Belarus Women Premier League season after her team's 14-0 demolition of Universitet on Tuesday.
The former Rivers Angels striker was the star of the show as she scored four goals as the champions took Universitet apart.
The victory ensured that Minsk maintained their top spot status, having taken 13 points from their first five league games.
When asked by SL10 if she could remember a better start to a season in his career, Uchechi replied: “I have to say it's something fantastic for the team to have 13 points after five games, and for me to score 14 goals is amazing.
“I don’t think I ever scored 14 goals in the first 10 or 15 games, and now it's 14 in five games!”
Uchechi believes her purple patch in front of goal has come as a direct result both of feeling more comfortable in her surroundings and enjoying a full pre-season with Minsk.
“When I came, I felt much better in a new environment. I felt much stronger and after pre-season everything was different. I know the league better, and the players that we play against. Everything is different.”
The manner of Minsk's victory has prompted many to consider them favourites to retain the Premier League title this year.
However, while Uchechi admits her side could not have enjoyed a better start to the season, she is being careful not to get too carried away with the excitement fostered by early season form.
“I think on Tuesday we played a fantastic game as a team, and I also think Gift Otuwe and Ishola Tawa were fantastic for us,” she said.
“But it's just the start of the season and we have 13 points. It’s perfect but there are a lot of games until the end of the season.”
