Sergio Aguero rescued a point for Manchester City, as they drew 1-1 with Liverpool in an entertaining encounter at the Etihad.
Pep Guardiola's charges enjoyed the better start with Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling causing havoc down the flanks, although chances were hard to come by.
City nearly broke the deadlock after 20 minutes through David Silva, whose volley from 18-yards out sailed inches wide of the upright.
James Milner came to Liverpool's rescue after 40 minutes, as the captain popped with a superb block to deny Sterling from firing into an empty net.
Jurgen Klopp's charges carved out a couple chances late in the half, with Adam Lallana going close with a volley, which Willy Caballero tipped over the crossbar.
The score remained goalless as the sides entered the halftime break.
Liverpool were awarded a penalty after 50 minutes when Roberto Firmino was brought down by Gael Clichy. Milner stepped up and converted the spot-kick against his former side.
City eventually leveled matters in the 68th minute when Aguero turned home Kevin de Bruyne's cross from six-yards out, 1-1.
Guardiola's charges nearly went ahead after 77 minutes, but De Brunye's left-footed strike crashed against the upright.
Liverpool squandered a glorious chance to take the lead after 82 minutes, but Lallana somehow failed to slot home from six-yards out.
City pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but the Liverpool defence managed to stand firm, as the match ended 1-1.
Goals from Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli helped Tottenham Hotspur claim a 2-1 win over Southampton.
