CAF Champions League

Result: AS Vita 1-3 Mamelodi Sundowns

Date: 24 May 2017

Venue: Stade des Martyrs la Pentecote

Anthony Laffor, Yannick Zakri and Sibusiso Vilakazi were all on target as Mamelodi Sundowns claimed a 3-1 win over AS Vita in a CAF Champions League group stage tie.

Sundowns carved out the first chance of the game when Yannick Zakri was played through on goal, but Lukong produced a fine save to deny the strike from close range.

Vita started seeing more of the ball after 15 minutes and looked to exploit the flanks, although they struggled to carve out chances.

However, it was Sundowns who broke the deadlock in the 24th minute when Anthony Laffor sneaked in at the far post to head home, 0-1.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser and were rewarded seven minutes later when Sidibe rifled the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Vita dominated the possession statistics in the final 15 minutes of the first half, but it was Sundowns who nearly went ahead just before the break when Zakri rattled the crossbar from 12-yards out.

After a quiet opening to the half, Sundowns restored their lead in the 56th minute as Zakri created some space before firing past Lukong from 20-yards out.

The Brazilians should have added a third goal in the 67th minute when Percy Tau teed up Themba Zwane, who blazed over the crossbar with only Lukong to beat.

Pitso Mosimane opted for a change after 70 minutes as Zakri made way for Teko Modise, with the latter coming off with a slight knock.

Seven minutes later, Sundowns grabbed a third goal as Sibusiso Vilakazi won possession of a Vita defender and showed great composure to slot beyond Lukong, 1-3.

Mosimane decided to shut up shop in the closing stages, as he introduced Siyanda Zwane for Themba Zwane with just over six minutes remaining.

Nevertheless, the score remained 3-1 to the defending champions at the full-time whistle.

Here's how they lined up:

Sundowns: Onyango, Morena, Madisha, Nthethe, Langerman, Mohomi, Vilakazi, Zwane, Laffor, Tau, Zakri.

Downz sending a very strong message to fellow title pretenders with this result. We're the kings and whoever wants to dethrone us, they better be warned!
