Senong: Angola Have One Strong Team
Thabo Senong Expects A Tough Challenge Against Angola
Bafana Bafana stand-in coach, Thabo Senong, has indicated that he expects a tough challenge for his side in their upcoming clash with Angola.
Bafana take on Angola in a 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier on Saturday at the Rand Stadium in Johannesburg with proceeding set to get underway at 15h00. The second leg will take place on Saturday October 11 at October Stadium in Luanda.
With the fixture falling outside of the international period it was always going to be a struggle to get teams to release players and in light of this Senong has extended his gratitude to the clubs that have made their players available for the qualifier.
“It was all about communication with respective coaches from the clubs. A lot of coaches are willing and want to see Bafana Bafana improving, being successful, and qualifying for tournaments. So a lot of communication took place before we finalised the squad. There was a lot of synergy. They really worked hard to support us,” Senong said in official SAFA press release.
“The response from coaches at both the National First Division (NFD) and the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has been very positive and because of that we are able to prepare thoroughly. We have had challenges before, which we all know about, but I must say the cooperation from the clubs was very good.
“We have been analysing Angola’s matches but the interesting thing about them is that they don’t have a CHAN or AFCON team, they have one strong team. We now know their key players, their formation, their weakness and strengths, but make no mistake they are a very competitive side. It’s not going to be easy. We are well aware of what they will bring to us, physically & tactically and mentally.”
Do you think it is important that the Bafana win their Chan qualifiers so that they go into their World Cup qualifiers, also against Angola, full of confidence?
