Is Komphela The New Wenger?
Default

Kaizer Chiefs coach, Steve Komphela, has been under an enormous amount of pressure recently with Kaizer Chiefs underperforming, and many have been calling for him to get the sack. However, following the unexpected win over Cape Town City, how have things shifted for the manager? Let’s take a look.

Chiefs have been having a disappointing run of form in recent weeks, causing a division within the Amakhosi fans, with half of them calling for Komphela to be shown the door.

The situation seemed to be spiralling out of control with many supporters jumping on board the proverbial “Komphela Out” bandwagon. So, when the Glamour Boys would go on to score two goals against an in-form City side, this, undoubtedly, eased the pressure off of Komphela. It may even be enough to get many of the supporters back on his side, a play that seems to come straight out of Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger’s play book.

Similar to Komphela, the “Wenger Out” brigade seems to have been growing from strength-to-strength over the last couple of seasons, and with each underwhelming Arsenal performance, a few more members trickle in.

Wenger, however, has managed to hold on to his job, despite the strong contingent, and he seems to do this by winning just enough games to pacify the fans momentarily, until the uprising begins again and the process is repeated.

Arsenal didn’t qualify for the Champions League for the first time in over a decade, and many thought that would be enough to get the manager his severance package. But when he went on to win the FA Cup, an inconsequential trophy in comparison to the European one, it was enough to sway the fans on the fence to rally behind him once again.

It looks as though Komphela may be carefully studying the Arsenal manager, because this win against Cape Town City may be viewed as being Wenger-esque, in the sense that it will restore the faith of many fans as Tuesday evening’s victory is, undeniably, a positive sign for the team. But whether or not this win will be enough to forgive Komphela’s past transgressions in the eyes of many supporters remains to be seen.

Do you think fans should give Komphela more time to prove himself?

I would love to see management of chiefs letting steve finishing his contract,at least from coaching point of view you can see where the team is going with introduction of young players into the system that augurs well for the brighter future if chiefs keep on changing coaches for the sake of the so called fans then I see a bleak future,we have to look at things in a holistic manner look what's happening to bafana many soccer pundits were baying for mashaba 's blood just because mashaba is not their prefered coach or sophisticated coach according to them now they are eating a humble pie not to say baxter is bad but things didn't go his way and its too bad if I was having millions of rands I would urge chiefs management to give steve more years until he got it right 'cos you can see where the man is trying to go.

FA Cup is an equivalent of the Nedbank Cup so you can't compare the two coaches, plus Wenger buys his players and Steve doesn't.

nappyrena orphans have short memories. One win, the Coach is a hero...one loss, he is a villain. So on and on. This works in Prof Komphela 's favour,
